Stride

/straɪd/
Concept
Definition

The number of pixels by which a filter moves across the input during convolution or pooling operations.

Stride controls output size - larger strides produce smaller outputs. Stride 1 moves one pixel at a time, stride 2 skips every other position. Affects receptive field and computational cost.

Examples

1

Stride 1 for detailed features

2

Stride 2 for downsampling

3

Stride > 1 reduces computation
