The number of pixels by which a filter moves across the input during convolution or pooling operations.
Stride controls output size - larger strides produce smaller outputs. Stride 1 moves one pixel at a time, stride 2 skips every other position. Affects receptive field and computational cost.
Stride 1 for detailed features
Stride 2 for downsampling
Stride > 1 reduces computation
